Wednesday, July 21

Yes, a very busy day today.

I have to be out nearly all day, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., so Beth stays with the Birthday Guy all day.

She makes Tom a card, which promises presents. They go to Aixois together to do some work. The guys in the kitchen say hello to Beth and are very nice to her, she is very shy and makes them laugh and then she giggles, too.

They go to the post office and then it's off to Curves.

After that, time for a swim. The day is hot and blustery. It takes Beth a long time to get into the pool. She inches her way in and stands forever in one place. Finally, she swims and practices all the strokes she knows: backstroke, butterfly, underwater, etc.

When I'm finally home from a long hectic day, we decide what to do for Tom's birthday. Guesses? O'Dowds! Eddie is playing, so we know it will be fun.

We have fish and chips, and a Guinness. We find some friends are there too, and one of the gals from the Irish Center is celebrating her birthday, too! She shares her birthday cake with us. Beth eats hers before dinner! Eddie led the crowd in his own happy birthday song for both of them; he also sang the Nancy song (like always).

After O'Dowds, we stopped by to see what was up at Aixois. We sat at the bar and chatted with our friends there -- one from Turkey, one from Czechoslovakia. It was a late night for Bethie, all for Tom's special day.
