Week 1: Beth's Winter Holiday 2010

Beth and Ken arrived on Saturday Nov. 20, a direct flight from Columbus.

We started out with breakfast at home and just catching up. We raked some leaves and relaxed around the house and then headed over to Aixois to catch up with some friends. We had a glass of wine there and chatted a while, and then we went to a rugby fundraiser out in Lenexa. We saw some friends out there -- notably, Eddie Delahunt came and tipped his cap to Beth. She was delighted and mimed tipping a cap back to him!

Sunday, Nov. 21 -- mostly stayed around home, Beth wanted french toast for breakfast. We went to family dinner over at Patsy's house. Ken couldn't believe how the children have grown. It was a lovely dinner.

Monday, Nov. 22 -- Beth, Ken and Tom went to the shop and chatted with friends, and had a quiet day. Nancy had some work to do, a little late. We had a late dinner of chicken and noodles. Nancy and Beth started planning the big dinner.

Tuesday, Nov. 23 -- Tom took Ken and Beth to the Nelson Art Gallery, but it was closed. Instead they went on some errands. We had dinner at home, while we started in on making the pies.

Wednesday, Nov. 23 -- Nancy at work again, and today Tom took Ken and Beth to the Nelson for a nice tour, then downtown to the Webster House for a lunch. Nancy met up with everyone there. Later, we met up with our friends Sarah and Lucy, and we visited Lucy's home in Olathe. At night, we went to O'Dowd's to see Eddie.

Thursday was the big day! Dinner at 1 p.m. We had turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn souffle, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce, salad, and desserts -- pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, pecan pie, cookies and fudge! A total of 15 crowded around our table. It was a wonderful day.

Friday, Nov. 26 -- We all went out for a little visit to a couple of shops we like, a printing studio and then to a cooking shop. We relaxed at home until time to go to Aften's house and then to the Mayor's Xmas tree lighting at Crown Center. It's not as big an event as the Plaza lighting, but it was nice to be out with friends. We went back to Aften's for yummy lobster bisque.

Saturday, Nov. 27 -- The football games kept the guys in front of the TV a lot, but we ran a few errands in Brookside, and then went to visit Max. After that, time to take Ken to the airport for his journey home.
